Father's Day Downunder Aussie Style
It was Father's day in Australia 2'nd September 2007 and although I don't have any kids we ended up a friends BBQ. My mate, although born in Australia he's heritage is Yugoslavian, man can they drink! It happened to be a double celebration as his mum and dad returned from a three month overseas holiday on Friday. So as you can expect there was an abundance of fantastic food, including fresh fish that had been caught that day. Include ice cold beer, some excellent red wine and the odd shot glass of Ballantine whiskey (you have to luv duty free), I'd say we all enjoyed ourselves without a doubt.
As I'm writing this however, I start to wonder what it must be like for dads who can't see their kids. Father's in the armed forces; Separations; Divorce, the list of possibilities goes on. I then ponder the thought of how these children feel...
I don't know about you, but issues like this ground me. They force me to look within and around, evaluate what I have & what I should be thankful for. These reality checks are humbling for me.
